About Us

All About TUMS Family support is a vital part of the treatment pathway for anyone suffering from alcohol or drug misuse. It enables those affected by alcohol or drug misuse to gain a better understanding of the issues surrounding addiction, such as relapse prevention, how to recognize depression or suicide and how best to help a loved one succeed on the pathway to recovery.

With Family Support, members of the family can begin to feel part of the healing process and supported in taking forward their knowledge on recovery and support.

TUMS is part of the ADAPT locality network and wider ADAT Strategy. It is run by a local volunteer with experience and background in alcohol & drug misuse issues.

ADAT Strategy

Dumfries and Galloway Alcohol and Drug Action Team are the Strategic body of partners responsible for the commisioning, set up and delivery of services across the region. This can range from prevention education across communities and in schools, to treatment and support services, to working with partners helping people back to work.

Locality Support

TUMs was originally set up with the support and direction from the local community drug and alcohol forum ADAPT (alcohol and drug action partnership team). Much of their work was implemented across the community in partnership or led by a larger group called SHAP (safe and healthy action group).

The ADAPT alcohol and drug agenda has now merged within SHAP and the two groups have become one. It is hoped this will enable alcohol and drug issues to be addressed across a wide range of disciplines and agencies. The next SHAP action plan is currently under development. Once plans are finalized they will be detailed on this site.

What is the A&E SHAP ?

The Annandale & Eskdale Safe & Healthy Action Partnership (SHAP) is a partnership of organisations, groups and community members working to improve the health and quality of life of people living in Annandale & Eskdale

The partnership aim to:

  • Work together to make best use of local resources, avoiding duplication whilst meeting local needs
  • Work with communities and groups, particularly those who are most disadvantaged or vulnerable, to identify local needs and opportunities in relation to safety, health and wellbeing
  • Work together to develop projects and initiatives or change services appropriate to these needs

The Annandale & Eskdale SHAP has representatives from a range of groups and organisations who have a remit for delivering services in Annandale & Eskdale as well as community members.

Funders

Many thanks to those who helped apply for funding ans to those who saw the good in what we do and gave some of their pennies away!

  • ADAPT - core funding
  • DGHP - website development and year one maintenance funds
  • A&E Rotary Club - printer / scanner funds
  • ADAT – training costs

We continue to look for funding to enable us to better support mums on board, taking our training to wider groups and for the continuing development of this support group.
